MARY J Blige has revealed her horrifying clash with a HUGE pop star who told her to “dye your roots” and slammed her “off-key” singing.
The 55-year-old first found fame in 1992 after the release of her first solo album What’s the 411?.
Mary has now revealed the devastating time she met her idol, someone she was overjoyed to finally cross paths with.
And, it definitely didn’t go to plan as she was brutally rebuffed.
Speaking on the R&B Money podcast, the singer said: “I had just met this person and I was excited, so excited to meet them.
“This was you know back then your roots was dark and your hair was blonde but people didn’t know what it was, but we knew what it was.

“And this person goes ‘you really should dye your hair and your roots the same colour as your hair. And you really should learn to sing on key’,”
Mary continued: “I ain’t saying no names but I was like ‘let me go see if I’m singing flat or whatever that means’.
“That was f****d up because I was excited to meet this person… someone that I absolutely loved so much. And that’s what they said to me.”
Mary told podcast host and R&B singer TANK that she was left crushed and speechless by her run in with the pop star.
The R&B legend refused to name names but it was clear the disappointing experience left her reeling at the time.
Fans have been determined to find out who dissed Mary all those years ago with the most popular guesses being Chaka Khan, Prince and Aretha.
Chaka, 73, has previously shaded Mary after she covered her song Sweet Thing.
In a resurfaced clip, Chaka was asked if she called it the song “Mary J Blige f****d up.”
Chaka replied: “I mean I didn’t say that out in public. I might have said it to her.”
The interviewer asked how Mary “f****d it up.”
And she added: “Number one, her vocals were flat and I told her I asked her I said what time of day was it, night? What were you doing when you decided to cover it… Where were you at?”
While Chaka‘s criticism seemed harsh she explained that her and Mary, “have that kind of relationship” where they can talk.
They later ended up recording music together.
Mary J Blige is still in the music game and even released her latest single More Than a Lover back in February.
