Martin Lewis-approved winter hack ‘cuts energy use’ and costs just £11.99 on Amazon

The tip was shared on a past episode of The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, and it’s perfect for this time of year.

It involves insulating around radiators, and the CUQOO Radiator Reflector Foil costs just £11.99 on Amazon.

When it’s too cold to turn central heating off, the next best thing is to protect the heat from escaping.

According to the information on Martin Lewis’ MSE energy-saving tips checklist, reflective panels can help cut energy use.

They can help block the heat from escaping through external walls, reflecting and trapping it back into the room to retain warmth for as long as possible.

Energy bills rose by around 2% for many households this October, and with temperatures dropping it’s good to be prepared with small switches to keep costs down.

Luckily, not all household investments have to be expensive, and in comparison to a larger appliance, this is a much cheaper option.

Spending a lot of money on energy-saving and heating appliances can be counter-productive, which is why the radiator foil could be a smart investment at just £11.99.

You can measure and cut the 3.6mm thick foil so it’s not on show, and then it takes just seconds to layer behind the radiators.

Amazon shoppers are praising the cheap insulating hack, with many snapping it up for the new season.

One shopper said: Bounces heat back into the room… which can only be a good thing to save energy costs.

‘’I feel that when I switch the central heating on, the rooms warm up quicker than they did before the reflective foil was installed.

‘’The foil was easy to cut to size with scissors, then cutting out narrow slots where the brackets attach the radiators to the wall.

‘’Drop the foil panel between the radiator and wall – job done!’’

Another shopper commented: ‘’I was a bit doubtful if it would make radiators and room any warmer but it does.

‘’I am very happy with this product, I did 4 radiators in total and even put a double layer behind the living room radiator, so it may have covered 5 radiators.’’

Another handy winter investment is a dehumidifier, which will help draw excess moisture from the air, and also speed up laundry drying times in cold temperatures – we’ve tried tested the best dehumidifiers.

Heated airers are also great at keeping energy costs down, as they’re far cheaper than a tumble dryer – which Martin Lewis notes is one of the most expensive appliances to run.
