The actress plays Catherine Earnshaw to Elordi’s Heathcliff in the new film, and their off-screen chemistry has almost overshadowed their on-screen romance over recent weeks.
Robbie recently claimed to relish the movie’s emotional ‘swings’ and said her character cries almost relentlessly in every scene she’s in.
Asked if she prepares differently for romantic scenes, she told PEOPLE: ‘No different to all the other scenes that we do. The movie kind of demands a lot of all of us.
‘My character essentially cries in every single scene, but no, it was a joy. I loved playing a character who kind of swings from one wild emotion to the other in an instant.’
The new movie is written and directed by Emerald Fennell, and the 40-year-old filmmaker stressed that ‘safety and trust and love’ were uppermost in her mind when she helmed the sex scenes.
Fennell – who directed Elordi in Saltburn – added: ‘It’s always just about making sure everyone feels super comfortable and we all are, really. We trust each other and so we try to kind of make it funny and laugh everything off.
‘But love scenes are just the same as any other scene, really. And so we just approach it from an emotional point of view.’
Fennell also revealed that she relished the experience of working with Robbie on her latest theatrical release.
She said: ‘Do you know what? She’s an inspiration. She’s an extraordinary woman.
‘She’s a mother, she’s a producer, she’s an unbelievably talented actress and she also always has time to be generous to the people around her. And so she’s the best.’
While the film doesn’t open until February 13, pre-sales are already strong, hinting at a $30M-$35M domestic opening weekend.
This would make Wuthering Heights the biggest box office opener of Jacob’s career, and Margot’s first hit since 2023’s Barbie.
Notably Barbie, in which Robbie played the titular role and Fennell had a small part in as Midge, had a $150 million budget for marketing alone.
The marketing juggernaut spanned everything from a real life Malibu Barbie DreamHouse Airbnb, so obnoxiously pink it could be seen ten miles away, to a HGTV (owned by Warner Bros) airing a full four part Barbie DreamHouse Challenge special – with more than 100 clothing, lifestyle brands cashing in.
Wuthering Heights will go on general release from February 13.
