Man Utd weighing up transfer for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as Ruben Amorim plots summer midfield overhaul

MANCHESTER UNITED are monitoring Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.

Scott, 22, earned his first England squad call-up last month and was part of the Under 21s’ triumphant Euros squad in the summer.

United are planning to overhaul their midfield in the summer and Scott has emerged as a potential target.

Nottingham Forest talisman Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace and Brighton enforcer Carlos Baleba are also under consideration by United.

Scott has started in 15 of Bournemouth’s 16 games this season and is expected to line up against United at Old Trafford tonight.

The former Bristol City player primarily lines up alongside Tyler Adams, who has also been linked with United.

Scott and Adams, 26, are both under contract at Bournemouth until 2028.

United could reinforce their midfield next month if Kobbie Mainoo is allowed to leave on loan.

Mainoo had a request to leave blocked in the summer but his only start all season was in the League Cup defeat to Grimsby Town in August.

United manager Ruben Amorim admitted on Friday he would be open to discussions with Mainoo about his future in the coming weeks.

But United could also deny Mainoo a mid-season move as they could be without forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Amad for up to a month when they depart for the Africa Cup of Nations later this week.

Bournemouth’s Adams has cropped up in reports alongside other names in the last week.

And at £40million the USA international is a significantly cheaper option for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s cash-strapped side, with the other trio priced in the £80-100million regions.

Adams, 26, is jumping at the opportunity to shine on Monday night when he goes up against Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes on his return from a one-match ban for five yellow cards this season.

Speaking on The Captain presented by Verizon, Adams said: “It’s just a special occasion.

“This is what you grow up watching, whether you’re a fan or not. A fan of Manchester United walking into Old Trafford will change your perspective on everything.

“I played at Old Trafford during COVID with Leipzig. And that was the first time I walked into Old Trafford and I was like, my dream is really to play in the Premier League because this is what it’s about right here.

“Now being able to go back and play there multiple times and have good results, especially makes it a little bit better. So yeah, I always get excited to play against United.”

Among midfielders, only Moises Caicedo has made more interceptions this season than Adams, who has made 35 tackles in total.

In their sequence of six matches without victory, Adams has still caught the eye, scoring from almost 50 yards out against Sunderland.

Picking up the ball in his own half, he lobbed goalkeeper Robin Roefs from inside the centre-circle. It was voted goal of the month for November.

He said: “It was one of those blackout moments where you find yourself in a scenario and you think ‘have a go’. I had the confidence to try it and it ended up going in the back of the net.

“If you asked me to do that with no goalkeeper in the goal, I mean, maybe two out of 10 times you hit it that nicely.

“It was an exciting moment because adding a little bit more to your game is important. I have challenged myself a little bit to have more of an eye for that.

“I’m not going to say I’m capable of scoring from 47 yards week in week out, but I am capable of doing more on the offensive end and I want to add that to my game a little bit more without taking away from what I do really well on the defensive side of the ball.

“Because I’ve scored a goal, I’m not a player now going on the field and forgetting my responsibility and my role, do you know what I mean?

“Just because I scored a goal doesn’t mean I’m Justin Kluivert or Antoine (Semenyo). It’s their job to do that.”

Forward players Eli Junior Kroupi, Kluivert and Semenyo create the headlines for Bournemouth, with the latter even referenced as a “special player” by Ruben Amorim during Friday’s press conference.

But Adams – who experienced relegation with United’s historic rivals Leeds in 2023 – plays a crucial role in making the side flow.

His forward thinking prowess has allowed full-back Alex Scott to get on the ball and create from his central midfield position.

United could be in the market for two new midfield targets over the next two windows.

Brazil legend Casemiro, 33, is set to depart Old Trafford next summer, with his contract extension situation in limbo.

While United skipper Fernandes revealed he will make a decision about his long-term future after the 2026 World Cup.
