Man in his 80s dies as car crashes into wall after suffering ‘medical episode’ behind the wheel

A pensioner has died after suffering a suspected medical episode before crashing his car into a wall.

Police rushed to Guide Lane in Audenshaw, Tameside, Greater Manchester, at around noon today after receiving reports of a smash on the street.

Officers discovered a man, in his 80s, critically injured before he tragically died on his way to hospital for urgent treatment.

They believe the pensioner, who was behind the wheel of a white Kia Rio, had suffered a medical problem while driving.

It is understood he then veered off course and struck the wall before succumbing to his injuries.

Greater Manchester Police quickly cordoned the area off this afternoon, with police tape and officers at the scene.

The force’s serious collision investigation unit are now appealing for help following the fatal crash.
