Man drove at Huntingdon ‘train attacker’ with his car after seeing ‘large male with a knife’ as tried to escape

A DAD has claimed he struck the Huntingdon train attacker with his car after seeing a “large male with a knife” try to make an escape.

Dave Scott, 57, was waiting to pick up his daughter at Huntingdon railway station in Cambridgeshire when a man brandishing a knife attempted to storm his BMW.

He told the BBC: “It was a case of fight or flight, and I just powered away as quick as I could, also taking him with [me].”

Dave said he noticed people running down the platform, which he initially put down to teenagers just “pratting around”.

But after several more passengers fled the station, he said he saw a “large male” heading straight towards him.

Armed with the sharp weapon, he said the man marched towards his car before trying to force his way in.

When he couldn’t open the door, Dave said he began “chopping down” on the roof of the vehicle.

With no moment to spare, the dad spun his BMW round thinking he may hit him.

But just moments after, cops appeared and arrested the knifeman as Dave remained glued to his car seat – still spinning from adrenaline.

When he phoned his daughter Helena, he was “relieved” to find out she was not on the train but had been diverted at another station in Cambridgeshire.

Anthony Williams, 32, was charged with multiple offences following the stabbing rampage on the train at Huntingdon.

Eyewitnesses to the horror said passengers were trampled and hid in the toilets as the screams of victims were heard amid the chaos.

One man said he initially thought it was a Halloween prank before he realised he had been covered in blood from a wounded passenger.

And a woman previously told how she cheated death after coming face to face with the savage attacker.

Dayna Arnold, 48, was sat in the same train carriage as the attacker when the brutal spree unfolded, she claimed he left her unharmed after she begged him not to kill her and he declared “The devil’s not going to win”.

Meanwhile Stephen Crean, 61, a lifelong Nottingham Forest fan, approached the attacker with nothing but his fists as other passengers fled.

Mr Crean said he was stabbed six times before he managed to lock himself in a train bathroom until the armed police arrived on the scene.

The football fan said when he got up from his seat and approached the attacker, protecting people was his motivation.

When he confronted the attacker, the knifeman asked him “do you want to die?” said Mr Crean.

And, hero train driver Andrew Johnson, from Peterborough, diverted the train just minutes after being alerted to the stabbing rampage which saved lives.

Another witness, who did not want to be named, said he saw the knifeman “walking with intent” and he “almost looked possessed”.

While the attack was unfolding, a message played over the tannoy: “We are aware there is an incident . . . just keep yourselves safe.”

A Nottingham Forest season-ticket holder suffered serious injuries while protecting a girl during the rampage.

A number of fans were returning to London on the train after watching their side’s 2-2 draw at home to Manchester United.
