Major shopping centre EVACUATED & huge cordon in place after ‘suspicious package’ found as bomb disposal swoop in – The Sun

A MAJOR shopping centre has been evacuated after a “suspicious package” was found.

Cops and a bomb squad scrambled to the scene at St Nicholas Arcades, Lancaster, after emergency services were alerted at 6.30am today.

The city centre was evacuated with a huge cordon swiftly put in place.

Lancashire Police warned the public to stay away from the area as a “precaution”.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We currently have a cordon in place in Lancaster Gate, Lancaster.

“This was following a report we received at 6.32am that a suspicious package had been found near to a property.

“Colleagues from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team are on their way and we ask people to avoid the area as a precaution.

“We will provide an update when we can.”
