A SERIOUS collision on the M1 in Bedfordshire is causing delays for motorists.
The southbound carriageway is still fully closed, with a temporary closure of the northbound carriageway earlier today.
The closure is between J13 near Bedford, and J12 Flitwick.
It concerns a multi-vehicle collision that occurred at around 1.30pm today.
The closure is to allow air ambulance to attend the scene.
Bedfordshire Police, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, East of England Ambulance Service and East Anglian Air Ambulance were all in attendance.
Bedfordshire Police remain on site while an investigation is carried out.
It wrote on X: “We are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the M1.
“Emergency services were called shortly after 1.30pm today (Sunday) following reports of a collision between junctions 13 and 14 on the southbound carriageway.
“A full closure of the southbound carriageway is currently in place. The northbound carriageway is temporarily closed to allow the air ambulance to attend the scene.
“We would like to thank everyone affected by the closures for their patience, and we ask anyone planning to use the M1 to seek alternative routes at this time.”
National Highways Traffic Officers are assisting with traffic management at the scene.
Drivers have been advised to find an alternative route for their journey.
National Highways wrote: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
A Hollow Square diversion symbol is being used to re-route drivers.
