A major ford dealership is closing down after 20 years

After operating the forecourt at Crown Quay Lane, Sittingbourne, for almost two decades, Ford SMC has now boarded it up.

The property is situated off the roundabout that links the B2006 and Eurolink Way, giving it a prominent position in the town.

A banner plastered to the fencing outside the dealership is now directing customers to the Ford SMC in Pier Road, Gillingham.

After the store closed a week ago, Rapleys estate agency put the 2.37-acre property up for sale.

The agents state that it is “suitable for alternative uses” in addition to being able to be purchased as a dealership.

Swale Motors had been using the property prior to Ford.

It comes just days after another dealership suddenly closed down shortly after being filled with angry drivers reclaiming motors.

A haunting scene of blacked-out windows and a near-empty car park is all that remains of the once-celebrated GVE London supercar dealership – which officially appointed administrators last week.

The outlet, which boasted a massive social media following and hundreds of wealthy customers, specialised in the sale of super and hypercars – with a large number sold on a controversial Sale or Return basis.

Earlier, Ford has shared its five-year plan to to close almost half of its dealerships in the UK.

Announced in 2020, Ford’s aim is to boost profitability at its dealers by reducing their quantity and expanding their sales area.

At the start of this year, the Blue Oval announced it would close 50 dealerships across the country to complete this goal.

Only three of these 50 dealers terminated have been able to retain their Ford Authorised Service.

It had cut down to ‘just over 200 dealers’ nationwide, according to CarDealer, fulfilling its five-year target.

Ford of Great Britain said: “We have been actively restructuring the dealer network over the past several years to better align with the evolving needs of our business and deliver enhanced service.”
