Well, Axios thinks MAGA is overreacting to the constant stream of threats and political attacks we have been subjected to.
Because, of course, they do. That is the conventional wisdom in the legacy media and among All the Right People™. Everybody knows that Republicans commit all the political violence in this country.
“This is existential”: MAGA’s siege mentality deepens after Kirk killing https://t.co/yntm9f8Yls

Siege mentality. I wonder why. Perhaps I can suggest a few reasons.
Really, if you think about it, Republicans deserve to be the target of so much hate. If only we would agree with the left everything would be fine.
Charlie Kirk’s assassination has unleashed an outpouring of rage across the MAGA universe, with many leaders framing his death as evidence the movement is under attack from leftist forces.
Why it matters: At a moment of extreme volatility in American politics, many MAGA leaders are now calling for retribution — including the criminalization of the Democratic Party.
- The MAGA movement has long believed that it’s under siege, especially after the two assassination attempts against President Trump during the 2024 campaign.
- Right-wing activists see Kirk’s death as the ultimate vindication of that mentality — and proof that the movement is at “war,” whether it wants to be or not.
What they’re saying: Within minutes of the shooting at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, MAGA leaders cast Kirk as the victim of an existential political battle.
- Trump called Kirk a “martyr for truth and freedom,” vowing to crack down on the “radical left” for fomenting violence with its “demonization” of conservatives.
- “Charlie Kirk gave his life for his country. He’s on the battlefield of political combat, and they cut him down with an assassin’s bullet,” Steve Bannon said on his “War Room” podcast Wednesday evening.
- “They are at war with us. Whether we want to accept it or not, they are at war with us. And what are we gonna do about it?” Fox News host Jesse Watters asked on his show Wednesday night.
How many lectures have we been subjected to since Charlie’s death about how we have to tone down the rhetoric? As if it is Trump who is calling for violence and not the left wing, including Democratic Party leaders.

As John wrote, Slate, too, sees Republicans not being thrilled at being hunted by left-wing terrorists as “ominous,” because the idea that conservatives will no longer sit back and take it would naturally bother them. CBS News did its whole “it’s Trump’s fault” thing, and MSNBC went even further.
Someone told me “I think the worst part of the murder thing was the ominous response.” And I disagree. I thought it was the murdering. https://t.co/5683Bhy732

Is there anything we could say that doesn’t “offend” liberals? And why does nobody in Pravda even think for a moment that we might be offended by being called Nazis and fascists?
CBS’ Nate Burleson says Republicans should tone down their rhetoric, that what Charlie Kirk said was “offensive” to some communities.
Yeah, truth is offensive to liars. Faith is offensive to demons.

Democrats, I would suggest, better watch their use of bullets. That might help a bit.
As liberals around the country posted their LOLs about Charlie’s death–doctors, elementary school teachers, professors, and university deans all joining in–the media calls Republicans out for hateful rhetoric.
Scott Adams: The Democrat Party needs to be ripped out by the roots⁰⁰@ScottAdamsSays “Two days ago I would have said the healthiest thing for the country is that there are two strong political parties battling it out, in a war of ideas.
But you know who else thought that?… pic.twitter.com/gftStZkR7j— jay plemons (@jayplemons) September 11, 2025
Or, as Burleson says, saying things some people might find “offensive.”
Uh, dude, that is EVERYTHING according to Democrats. There is literally nothing a Republican can say without being called a Nazi.
Leader Steve Scalise was shot.
President Trump was shot.
Then, another attempt was made on his life.

A new word is popping up–started, I think, by Scott Adams a few months ago. Republicans are being hunted, and that is about right. Transgender people are talking about “vengeance,” and liberals are posting lists of who should be next on the list.
Remember when all the regimevangelicals left Twitter for Bluesky because it was safe from hateful extremism and whatnot? I’m sure they will not be rage quitting over there, though. pic.twitter.com/uLMRCM2WLt

Bluesky, where all the Best™ and kindest people post, is filled with celebrations and speculations about the next assassination.
URGENT. FYI.
After Charlie Kirk, on the sky app there are people asking for the next person to be targeted. These include JK Rowling, Matt Walsh, Trump, Ben Shapiro, Libs of TikTok, Elon Musk, and Andy Ngo.

Really, though, Republicans deserve it. We are so mean, unlike the people trying to kill our leaders off.
The funny thing is that all those media folks chiding Republicans for exaggerating the threat and blaming us for any violence are all on Bluesky. Remember, many of them jumped over when Elon took over Twitter, and while most have come back to X, they still are active in that cesspool of left-wing hate.
Hopefully the FBI is all over Bluesky, where users are currently putting forward their preferred choices for the next assassination. pic.twitter.com/xPqBDRMnyg

In other words, they have seen the hate. They just want to hide it.
Anderson Cooper: Far right podcasters are profiting off rhetoric saying there’s a war targeting conservatives.
Dan Goldman: That’s incredibly dangerous. These far right podcasters need to realize this is not war.
