Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner set to be moved into council accommodation after months living in tent

MADELEINE McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner is set to be moved into council accommodation after months living in a tent in woodland in northern Germany.

The convicted paedophile and rapist, 49, has been camping in the forest since being freed from jail in September, sparking fear and outrage among locals.

Officials say he is due to move into a fixed property by Thursday, following protests by residents demanding action over safety concerns.

Brueckner had previously refused council housing, choosing to remain homeless.

The accommodation he turned down is understood to have been a converted shipping container.

Protest leader Annika B said: “It is a catastrophe.

“I’m so sorry for his victims.

“They have to live with fear and nightmares, while he is free to just swan around.”

Brueckner is German prosecutors’ main suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007.

He denies involvement and has not been charged.
