Mad first-half with THREE penalties leaves Hammers way adrift and Nuno fighting for his job

WEST HAM’s horror season continued as they once again threw away points from a winning position.

The Hammers had lost two points to a later equaliser to Brighton earlier this month and did even worse at the London Stadium.

The hosts led on two occasions, only to see a penalty from Danny Welbeck and a poke from Joel Veltman deny them victory.

Jarrod Bowen gave West Ham the lead with a blistering counterattack before Wlebeck levelled from the spot.

The striker then had the chance to give the Seagulls the lead from another penalty but his Panenka effort bounced back off the crossbar.

Lucas Paqueta made no mistake with a spot-kick of his own to restore the Hammers’ lead before half-time.

But the lead did not last as Veltman capitalised on a poor clearance from Alphonse Areola to level the game for a second time.

The failure to see out the win sees West Ham cut the gap to 17th Nottingham Forest to four points.
