A MAJOR motorway was forced to close after a “serious” crash sparked long delays.
The M6 northbound was closed between Junction 6 (Birmingham) and Junction 7 (Great Barr) in the early hours of the morning following a crash, National Highways said.
Traffic officers are on scene assisting with full carriageway closures and traffic management measures.
“Due to the nature of the incident, the closure is expected to be protracted,” National Highways said.
West Midlands Police are leading the response, supported by West Midlands Ambulance Service.
The road has been shut for more than four hours and an exact reopening time has not yet been given.
However, West Midlands Police are in the final stages of their investigations, National Highways West Midlands said in a post on X.
Recovery teams are present at the scene as the morning rush hour begins.
Any injuries as a result of the collision are not yet known.
