M6 grinds to a halt after crash with drivers facing hour-long delays

A MAJOR UK motorway has been closed after a collision left a vehicle overturned in the road.

Lanes 3 and 4 of the M6 North are closed near Birmingham between J4A (M42 link) and J5 (Castle Bromwich).

Drivers are battling rush hour chaos after the collision with huge queues of traffic now building on the road.

Emergency crews raced to the scene of the horror smash which saw a car overturn and come to a rest near the central reservation.

National Highways traffic officers as well as police, paramedics and fire crews are working to clear the scene and get traffic moving again.

Recovery for the overturned motor has been arranged and is on the way to the chaotic scene.

It remains unclear if any serious injuries were reported after the collision.

Delays along the route are now approaching an hour with motorists warned to plan ahead.

National Highways West Midlands said: “Due to an overturned vehicle, lanes 3 and 4 of (4) are closed on the M6 north near Birmingham between J4A (M42 link) and J5 (Castle Bromwich).

“All emergency services and Traffic Officers are working at the scene with recovery arranged and en route. There are 55 minute delays.

“It follows a collision in which a car has overturned and come to rest on its side against the central reservation.

“NTIC (National Traffic Information Control) systems are showing delays of up to 55 minutes on the approach at this stage.”
