M6 closed near major UK festival with drivers facing 12 MILES of traffic and 90-minute delays after oil & sewage spill

THE M6 has been closed near a huge UK festival with drivers facing twelve miles of traffic after an oil and sewage spill.

Motorists are facing 90-minute delays after the incident.

Travel services report two lanes have been shut on the northbound carriageway of the major motorway, close to junction 19 for Knutsford and junction 20 for the Lymm Interchange.

Dance music festival Creamfields gets underway in Warrington’s Daresbury Park today with Brits heading to the music event affected.

Travel cameras show long queues in the area, with drivers warned to expect delays.

National Highways said: “A specialist clean-up team is being co-ordinated.

“The incident is causing severe delays of 90 mins and very heavy congestion for 12 miles, back to J18 Holmes Chapel.

“This incident has also closed the link road from the M6 Northbound to the M56 J9 westbound near Stretton.

“If this incident impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.

“Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
