
A MAJOR UK motorway has closed due to delayed resurfacing works – sparking travel chaos for rush hour drivers.
Commuters travelling on the M5 near Tiverton, Devon, face a daunting nine-mile diversion to avoid the closure this morning.
The stretch – between Junction 27, for Tiverton, and Junction 26, for Wellington, was due to reopen at 6am after the essential roadworks.
But the carriageway has remained closed due to issues with the tarmac.
National Highways said: “M5 northbound between J27 Tiverton in Devon and J26 Taunton in Somerset.
“Due to resurfacing works which are taking longer to complete than anticipated.
“A diversion is in place using the by the A38 and A358. Work expected to be complete by 7am.“
