Luke Littler stunned by darts’ next sensation, 15, as he posts five-word message

LUKE LITTLER has been left stunned by darts’ next sensation as he delivered a five-word verdict online.  

The Nuke has been incredible since bursting onto the scene and the World No1 is set to defend his World Championship at Ally Pally later this month.

He is aiming to become the first person in a decade to successfully defend the title when the major event kicks off next week.  

But while full focus will be on coming out on top on the big stage once more, Littler has taken to social media to heap praise on another up-and-coming star. 

The man in question, young Mitchell Lawrie.  

The 15-year-old Scot defeated second seed Jason Brandon in straight sets at Lakeside and backed that up with the highest average of the tournament so far.

He also hit five maximums and some impressive checkouts that caught the eye of darts’ top player.  

Reacting to the WDF Darts Instagram account, the Nuke wrote: “This kid is a joke.”  

Naturally, the comparisons between Luke and Mitchell are hitting the headlines, but the youngster has been quick to play those down.  

He insists he will NEVER be Littler and will always be his own man.

He told Tungsten Tales darts: “I’ll never be him. I’ll always be Mitchell Lawrie at the end of the day.  

“What he’s [Littler] done is unbelievable. He’s made this sport what it is.  

“There’s so much attention to it because of him, but I’ll never be him, I’ll always be me and that’s just how it’s going to be.” 

One thing Littler had to get used to in those early days was becoming an overnight sensation with media attention heightened.  

It’s something that isn’t fazing Lawrie as be bids to land a historic title.  

He added: “I don’t mind it, it’s alright.  

“You go on Facebook and stuff, and you see your name everywhere. You have a chuckle at yourself, and you show your mum and dad.  

“But it’s alright, you just need to take it in your stride and whatever comes with it, will come with it I guess.”
