Liverpool rocked by another injury blow as Jeremie Frimpong taken off after 12 minutes with ‘real setback’

LIVERPOOL star Jeremie Frimpong suffered another injury blow in Holland’s 1-1 draw with Ecuador.

The 25-year-old was thrown on at half-time for Cody Gakpo, but lasted just 12 minutes before pulling up and being hauled off.

The Dutch national team coach Ronald Koeman said: “That was a real setback – we had to take him off.”

Frimpong’s electric pace and relentless runs down the right have made him a key weapon for Liverpoool, especially at a crunch stage of the season.

But injuries are becoming a worrying trend.

The Dutch ace has already suffered THREE separate hamstring issues since his £29.5 million move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer – missing 19 games for Liverpool.

The 25-year-old exited the pitch visibly frustrated last night in the midst of a disrupted season.

And it’s another headache for Arne Slot, with Liverpool’s season already stuttering.

The Prem holders are stuck fifth – five points off Aston Villa and a huge 21 behind leaders Arsenal.

And with Conor Bradley also sidelined, Slot is running out of right-back options fast.

Dominik Szoboszlai has often been left filling in at that position.

And he could be called on again when Liverpool face Man City in Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final.

Last night, Willian Pacho netted an own goal in the third minute to put the South American side ahead.

But with Denzel Dumfries seeing red in the 12th minute, it was only 12 minutes before Enner Valencia converted a spot-kick to bring Ecuador level.

Koeman and his men will face Algeria in another friendly on June 3 before the World Cup in the US, Mexico, and Canada this summer.

The Dutch side are in Group F for the World Cup, alongside Japan, Sweden, and Tunisia.

They will face Japan in their first game on June 14 in Texas, US.
