Liverpool parade latest updates: Suspect Paul Doyle to appear at court over ramming which injured 79 people during Premier League title celebrations

The suspected driver of a car that ploughed into a crowd at Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade will today appear in court charged with multiple offences such as wounding and causing grievous bodily harm.

Father-of-three Paul Doyle, 53, is accused of seven offences following the incident on Water Street in the city centre on Monday, which resulted in 79 people suffering injuries.

Doyle faces two counts of wounding with intent, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of dangerous driving.

Who is Paul Doyle?

According to his LinkedIn, Mr Doyle served with the marines as a commando in the 1990s before reading psychology and maths at a Russell Group university.

The middle-class company director is married with three teenage children and lives in a smart £300,000, four-bedroomed detached property on a neat estate in West Derby

The keen runner has since held various management positions as a network security consultant, including one for several years at an NHS Trust, while company records show that he previously ran a number of businesses. He now works in cyber security.

According to social media, the sports enthusiast attended a local university and his wife of 20 years has also regularly posted happy pictures of the family enjoying holidays abroad, including to Disneyland.

Doyle arrives at court amid heavy police presence

Doyle has remained in custody following his arrest on Monday when 79 people were injured during Liverpool FC’s title celebrations in the city.

Suspect to appear in court charged over Liverpool parade ramming

Good morning and welcome to our MailOnline coverage as the driver charged over the Liverpool parade ramming appears at the city magistrates’ court.

Paul Doyle, from West Derby on Merseyside, was charged with multiple offences by Merseyside Police yesterday.

Doyle, a former Royal Marine commando who is married with three teenage children, was arrested after a Ford Galaxy people carrier ploughed through a crowd of fans in the city centre, leaving some 79 people injured, with 50 needing hospital treatment. The youngest victim was just nine and the eldest 78 – with all victims believed to be British.
