A light aircraft with two people on board has crashed near a lake next to the M62 in Greater Manchester.
Police, paramedics and firefighters are currently on the scene following the crash on a patch of farmland next to Hollingworth Lake in Littleborough, Rochdale.
It is believed the Cirrus SR 20 aircraft took off from Birmingham before losing altitude and falling to the ground, with emergency services rushing to the scene shortly after 11am.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson added: ‘We are currently in attendance to establish the full circumstances and assess any casualties.

‘A scene is in place whilst emergency service workers conduct their enquiries and people are asked to avoid the area as this work is carried out.’
One of the two people on board reportedly evacuated the aircraft using a parachute, with images posted online appearing to show a yellow canopy tangled up in a nearby pylon.
The air ambulance called to the scene – in Tunshill Lane which is just off Kiln Lane and close to Tunshill Golf Club – later landed at Salford Royal Hospital.
This is a breaking news story. More to follow.
