Liam Rosenior refuses to rule out leaving Strasbourg for Chelsea and admits there are ‘zero guarantees’ over his future

LIAM Rosenior insisted there are ‘zero guarantees’ surrounding a move to become manager of Chelsea.

Speaking before Strasbourg’s match against Nice tomorrow, the Brit boss, 41, began by saying he wanted to focus on the game ahead, and not on a move back to London.

What followed was anything but that.

17 minutes into his press conference, he was still facing questions over his potential departure.

While he refused to explicitly state if he would stay in France or make the move to Stamford Bridge, he admitted he cannot guarantee how long he will remain in charge of Le Racing.

Asked about his future, he said: “There’s a lot of noise, a lot of speculation, but as a coach, if you get involved, you fail. My job is here, I love this club.

“In life, there are zero guarantees. You never know what tomorrow will bring. I’m just doing my job.

“There’s been speculation. I don’t want to guarantee how long I’ll be here, but I enjoy myself here every day. I intend to continue doing so as long as I’m here. I love this club, but I can’t guarantee anything. Nobody can.”

Rosenior was persistently asked about replacing Maresca, and his relationship with the BlueCo bosses regarding if they had spoken throughout the situation.

He added: “There are exchanges [with the ownership] because we are part of the same group.

“I’m honest, you can never control everything in life. I could say I’m going to stay here for years and then get fired.”

“I haven’t spoken to the players about it. There’s no need.

“I’ve had a few lighthearted jokes. But we’ve been focused on our work. The goal is to continue creating great things here.”

The 41-year-old is the current favourite to replace Maresca, though it won’t be done before the Blues face Manchester City on Sunday.

In the Chelsea dugout for that game will be current under-21’s boss Calum McFarlane, who admitted in the pre-City press conference that he had faced a “whirlwind” 24 hours.

Sunday’s match will be his first ever in charge of a senior professional football match, against Pep Guardiola, no less.
