LANDLORDS say they will keep Labour politicians barred from pubs and restaurants unless Chancellor Rachel Reeves dishes out a fair deal on business rates.
In a fiery letter to all Labour MPs, they say venues are being “taxed out of existence” despite pumping £60billion a year into the Treasury and supporting millions of jobs.
They want a 13p cut to the rates multiplier, a temporary VAT drop to 13 per cent, and a formal review to prove their proposed move would boost jobs and growth.
The letter was from landlord Andy Lennox, founder of the Wonky Table lobby group behind the “No Labour MPs” campaign.
He wrote: “Hospitality is the third biggest employer in the UK and already generates around £60billion a year in taxation.
“Despite this, venues are closing every day.
“These are not failing businesses.
“They are viable operations taxed out of existence.
“We are not seeking special treatment or long-term subsidy.
“We are asking for proportionate, targeted action to prevent further closures, job losses and long term damage to town centres.”
The MP ban began over a planned business rates hike.
It forced ministers into a U-turn for pubs, with the Treasury poised to unveil extra support.
Officials are still refusing to say if hotels, cafés and restaurants will get the same help.
