Yamal has been suffering with a groin injury and could be seen grimacing during Barcelona’s recent El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid.
Reports in Spain suggest that Yamal is dealing with Pubalgia – as Barca chiefs fear that the issue could be chronic, with no obvious cure.
Lionel Messi has also dealt with the condition during his career.
Speaking to Buenos Aires radio station club94.7 in 2019, Messi said: “Pubalgia is complicated.
“I suffer from it for a while now, I do little training and I can not play all the games.
“It is not a problem that can be solved overnight. I feel better now, but I still have not recovered and I still need treatment.”
Yamal and Co are set to be back in LaLiga action tomorrow.
Hansi Flick‘s side will host Elche as they seek to put pressure on leaders Real Madrid.
What is Pubalgia?
A sports hernia (Pubalgia) is a painful, soft tissue injury that occurs in the groin area. It most often occurs during sports that require sudden changes of direction or intense twisting movements.
Although a sports hernia may lead to a traditional inguinal hernia, it is a different injury.
Inguinal hernia (the most common type of groin hernia) is when abdominal tissue, such as part of the intestine, pushes through an opening in the lower abdominal wall, creating a painful bulge.
Sports hernia is a strain or tear of any soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament) in the lower abdomen or groin area.
Because different tissues may be affected and a traditional hernia may not exist, the medical community prefers the term “athletic pubalgia” to refer to this type of injury. The general public and media are more familiar with “sports hernia,” however, and this term will be used for the remainder of this article.
