Think again
SIR KEIR Starmer insists that his Brexit red lines still hold and we won’t be joining a customs union with the EU.
The problem is that it doesn’t matter what the Prime Minister says, and everybody in Westminster knows it.

First, his promises have already been shown to count for nothing.
And, second, it’s the Cabinet Ministers jockeying to replace him who are most likely to decide Britain’s next move.
So we have a message to Wes Streeting and friends, who are now openly hinting at dragging us back into the orbit of the EU.
Don’t even think about it.

It might play well with a rump of metropolitan die-hard Remainers in the Labour Party.
But a customs deal with the EU would mean ripping up the trade deals we have agreed with India, the US and many others.
We would once again become a rule-taker — having no say over the growth-destroying red tape which spews out of Brussels.
We would lose the ability to shape our own regulatory destiny, and seize the opportunities provided by AI.
And, rest assured, the vengeful EU would demand an eye-watering price for us re-joining.
A price which it would extract over years of tortuous negotiations.
Not only would all of this be a huge distraction from securing our borders, tackling crime and sorting out the NHS.
It would also be a massive betrayal of the 2016 vote to leave.
Labour — and whoever is in charge of the party by then — should expect to be punished hard for it.
Whose rights?
BRITAIN’S equalities chief is beyond out of touch.
Mary-Ann Stephenson, new chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has already come out on the side of migrants, saying they are being “demonised” and that politicians should stop talking about quitting European human rights laws.
It’s a long-practised tactic of the Left to try to silence all debate on the impact of migration.
The difference is the public isn’t prepared to take lectures from we-know-best quangocrats any more.
Bleak midwinter
UNDER this high-tax, high-cost-of-living Labour Government, the festive season never starts.
This year more than half of Brits say they are buying fewer presents and will be hosting fewer guests at home.
Next year looks just as bleak, with the ONS downgrading growth to just 0.2 per cent until next summer.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year…from Rachel Reeves and Co.
