As he lifts the sign he reveals the message: “Marry Christmas?”

The scene recreates the iconic moment in Love Actually when Mark confesses his love for his best friend’s wife while standing outside her front door.

In the scene he holds cue cards, one of which reads: “To me, you are perfect.”

Kevin and Katie’s story will continue in the next two adverts, and shoppers will have to wait to see if Katie says the all-important three-letter word.

The next two episodes will be launched during the festive season, although Aldi has not confirmed a release date.

Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said this year the supermarket is focusing on the idea that love is at the heart of the festive season.

She said: “We know how much our customers adore Kevin, and this year, to mark his 10th anniversary, we wanted to bring an extra sprinkle of magic and romance to his story.

“We can’t wait for everyone to join Kevin and Katie on their journey and see what other surprises we have in store.”

Aldi Christmas adverts through the years

Aldi often bases its Christmas adverts around popular festive films.

Last year’s advert was inspired by the Mission Impossible franchise.

In the advert festive spirit is stolen and it’s up to Kevin and Katie to get it back.

Meanwhile, in 2023 Kevin visited William Conker’s magic Christmas factory, a reference to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Plus, in 2022 the budget supermarket’s advert was based on the popular Christmas film Home Alone.

It followed Kevin taking on burglars after being left alone while his family went abroad.

The year before that viewers saw footballer Marcus Rashford star as a radish alongside Kevin.

The animated advert followed the story of Ebanana Scrooge in the style of A Christmas Carol.

Plus its 2020 advert was based on the classic film Top Gun.

Aldi is not the only retailer getting in the festive spirit.

Debenhams has already unveiled its Christmas advert, which stars Olivia Attwood, Peter Crouch and Judi Love.
