KEMI Badenoch gets behind the wheel at Brands Hatch as she demands the 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel cars be ditched.
The Tory leader beamed as she put on some overalls climbing into a Formula 4 car during a visit to the Kent race track.
Her trip came after she demanded the 2030 ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars to be abandoned and electric vehicle quotas to be scrapped.
Ms Badenoch said Labour’s rush to Net Zero was having a “disastrous effect” on the UK car industry.
Boris Johnson first installed the 2030 ban before it was pushed back five years.
Labour then moved it back to 2030.
Last week, The Sun reported on how Britain will press ahead with banning new petrol and diesel cars despite Europe preparing to ditch its own plans.
Downing Street said it remained “committed” to phasing out all new non-zero emission car and van sales by 2035 and that there was “no change” in policy.
Brussels had also planned to outlaw combustion engines by the middle of the next decade but was lining up a climbdown after heavy lobbying from Germany and Italy.
Manfred Weber, head of the biggest group in the European Parliament, earlier in the month declared: “The end of combustion engines is history.”
He added: “Good news for the automotive industry and millions of employees.”
Former Aston Martin boss Dr Andy Palmer warned Britain would struggle to go it alone because of how closely its car market is tied to Europe.
