Kelsey Parker under fire for admitting she doesn’t put SPF on her children – and lathers them in ‘organic sunscreen’ instead

Kelsey Parker has come under fire after she admitted she doesn’t put suncream on her children, claiming ‘they don’t burn’ and it that it ’causes skin cancer‘.

The podcast host, 34, is currently expecting her third child with tree surgeon Will Lindsay and has two children, Aurelia, five, and Bodhi, four, from her previous marriage to The Wanted star, Tom Parker, who tragically tragically died from brain cancer in 2022.

She made the shock confession in the latest episode of her Mum’s The Word!, a podcast about ‘the secret world of parenting’, cohosted by Georgia Jones, a friend of Kelsey’s.

During the episode, Georgia, who shares seven-year-old son Cooper with McFly star Danny Jones, asked for advice on how to avoid a tantrum from her son when applying sun cream to him.

To the shock of listeners, the mother-of-two then confessed that she opts to keep her children out of the sun rather than using SPF to protect them – and makes ‘organic’ sunscreen out of bees wax for UV protection instead.

‘It’s cause he knows, Georgia. It’s bad for you – that sunscreen,’ she said.

Kelsey confidently declared: ‘My kids do not wear sun cream.

Instead, she uses ‘organic’ sun cream to protect her children and claimed they ‘do not burn’.

‘Sun cream is so bad’, she said, adding that growing up she ‘never used to wear sun cream, sun cream causes skin cancer’.

‘The only thing that I may put on them is an organic sun cream.

‘My kids, we went on holiday, I never put sun cream on them and they do not burn.

‘But you’ve been putting sun cream on probably since birth.’

Responding to the controversial claim, Georgia said that her son would look like a ‘tomato’ if she didn’t put sun cream on him.

‘Just keep him out of the sun,’ said Kelsey hitting back.

She shared her recipe for homemade sun cream, made using ‘beeswax’ and ‘no bad stuff’.

But it will show up with a white cast, she said, since ‘it’s not got cr*p in it.’

Shocked, her co-host said: ‘I just wasn’t expecting this was they way it was going to go.

‘I thought you was just going to give me advice on how to do it.’

Since making the controversial remarks, the expectant mother has been blasted by listeners, who have accused her of spreading ‘dangerous information’.

One listener wrote: ‘This is really dangerous spreading this information. Please research.’

‘This is insane and so unsafe. It’s so damaging, burning doesn’t indicate sun damage, it can literally kill them. Wow,’ a second said.

A third slammed the ‘dangerous advice’, while a fourth called the dismissal of conventional sun cream ‘irresponsible’.

‘As someone who had lost family members to skin cancer this is such dangerous advice,’ another wrote.

However, a handful of sceptics agreed with her, one writing: ‘She’s absolutely right. The less ingredients the better.’

Kelsey had two children with Tom, who was diagnosed with terminal glioblastoma in 2020 and died from the disease in March 2022 at the age of 33.

Glioblastoma is a type of cancer starting with a growth of cells in the brain or spinal cord.

She is now expecting a baby with tree surgeon Will after finding love again last September.

She recently shared an appreciation post for him one month ahead of the birth of their baby, who the podcast host previously said was a ‘happy accident’.

Kelsey said she was ‘full of gratitude’ for her partner and thanked him for his help with her young children.

She included a series of loved-up photos of them together, including one of them on holiday and photos of Will with Aurelia and Bodhi.

According to the NHS website, people should apply suncream to avoid burning and use ‘at least factor 30’.

‘Sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer. Sunburn does not just happen on holiday. You can burn in the UK, even when it’s cloudy,’ the site reads.

It recommends avoiding the sun when it is at its strongest, between the hours of 11am ad 3pm from March to November, and cover up with suitable clothing and sunglasses.
