Coming up
Of course there are more titles on the line.
Our next fight will see Savannah Marshall face Shadasia Green in a unification fight for the super-middleweight belts.
We haven’t seen Marshall – a native of Hartlepool in the north east of England – in a boxing ring since July 2023.
She has been spending some time launching a mixed martial arts career alongside her boxing.
Marshall is 13-1 – her one defeat coming against the GWOAT, Claressa Shields.
Green is 15-1 and holder of the WBO belt.
This should be yet another cracker, with both women now in the ring and having their names read out.
‘Her name is remembered’
Speaking to the Netflix cameras after a brilliant win, Scotney said: “I lost my dear friend Georgia [O’Connor].
“She was 25 years old, she was a fighter and she lost her battle to cancer – buttonight I made sure her name was remembered in Madison Square Garden.”
Scotney dedicates win
Lovely moment in the ring there as Ellie Scotney dedicates her brilliant win to Georgia O’Connor.
Georgia (pictured) was a 25 when she died in May after battling cancer.
She was a Team GB star who won a Commonwealth youth gold medal in 2017.
Scotney reveals her father is in the house tonight in Madison Square Garden.
Rest In Peace.
Ellie Scotney BEATS Yamileth Mercardo
We expected a wide decision and we got one!
Scotney won all the rounds on one scorecard and eight of ten for the other two judges – 100-90, 98-92, 98-92.
Scotney vs Mercardo – R10
Into the last round…
Scotney is well ahead but she starts the round as if she’s losing – that’s as aggressive as she’s been since the first couple of rounds, she wants the KO!
A little exchange there and Mercardo is wobbled by a short right hand, the fatigue really catching up to her.
Another massive right goes in and hurts Mercardo but she is being brave right to the end.
Scotney relentless in this last round as she hunts that KO.
Mercardo throws back though but Scotney ends the fight with a gorgeous right.
Fair play to Mercardo for hanging on to the final bell but that should be a very wide win for the Brit – stunning performance!
Scorecards very shortly.
