John Goodman looks slimmer than ever in dapper suit at star-studded Smurfs premiere after 200lb weight loss

John Goodman looked slimmer than ever while attending the star-studded Smurfs premiere in Los Angeles over the weekend.

On Sunday, the 73-year-old actor — who has lost over 200 pounds over the years amid his weight loss journey — looked dapper in a navy blue suit.

For his premiere-ready outfit, he accessorized with a dark gray, patterned tie and completed his look with brown loafers at the Hollywood event.

He voices Papa Smurf alongside Rihanna as Smurfette in the upcoming animated movie, which is set for theatrical release on Friday, July 18.

This comes shortly after recovering from an injury he received while filming his latest film in England with action star Tom Cruise.

The Roseanne alum looked to be in high spirits and smiled widely at the premiere after he recently revealed the state of his friendship with former co-star Roseanne Barr after her racism scandal.

Goodman looked unrecognizable compared to how he looked when he made a vow to overhaul his lifestyle and lose weight back in 2007.

Back then, he also embarked on his sobriety journey when he stopped drinking when his trainer then took him to a new level of weight loss and fitness.

According to his trainer, he introduced the star to a ‘Mediterranean-style eating plan’ — which has a focus on fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables and fruit.

The actor also exercises six days a week, making sure to take 10,000 to 12,000 steps per day and working out on an elliptical bicycle or treadmill.

Goodman has always been open about his love of food, having said in the past to People: ‘It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your a** and figure out what you’re going to eat next.’

In 2016, he told Howard Stern in an interview: ‘I took it slow. I just wanted to change my lifestyle’ when he admitted of his new way of living.

‘It’s an ongoing process for the rest of my life,’ he said. ‘You look in the mirror everyday and go, “I gotta deal with this the rest of the day, I gotta deal with this schmuck?”‘

The following year he told ABC of his weight loss: ‘In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just go back to my old habits.’

He explained: ‘This time I wanted to do it slowly. Move, exercise. I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore.’

As part of his lifestyle overhaul, the actor ditched alcohol and in 2018 told AARP: ‘It was basically just portion control and “I don’t need it.”

‘I was just shoving everything into my mouth.’

Speaking about his alcohol addiction in the past, Goldman also told Rolling Stone: ‘All that anger was fueled by fear, and the drinking was because it was fun.

‘But I was probably born an alcoholic. But most of the anger’s gone,’ he said.

‘If I don’t watch the news, I’m cool.’
