ITV back down on woke Captain Scarlet trigger warning after backlash

A WOKE trigger warning on old episodes of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons has been removed after it was highlighted by The Sun.

The children’s puppet show, currently available on ITVX, alerted viewers to the fact that it contained “guns, explosions and violence.”

That’s despite the fact the firearms in question were actually bits of plastic not much bigger than a paper clip.

But since the story ran four days ago, ITV have removed the warning with an insider explaining they’re always “reviewing” the alerts that go on shows, if they come to their attention.

The series, first aired in 1967 and 1968, but is set in 2068 and centres on “indestructible” agent Captain Scarlet, rumoured to have been modelled – in looks and voice – on 007 actor Roger Moore.

The Sun last week reported on the woke warning on the famous creation by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, which was always aimed at children.

Many of the “explosions” featured in the show, which ran for 32 episodes, were just recordings of fireworks.

Captain Scarlet was added to streaming service ITVX as part of ITV’s plan to offer shows from the 1950s to the present day.

A TV insider told The Sun: “Bosses are clearly scared of worrying even the most sensitive of viewers to these shows.

“But slapping warnings on children’s series with the most basic and unrealistic special effects feels over the top.

“To pick on Captain Scarlet seems to indicate they are operating a zero-risk policy.

“But it’s hardly a Tarantino movie.”
