
On December 21, 1988, a Boeing 747 named Clipper Maid of the Seas exploded over the Scottish town of Lockerbie while en route from London to New York.
The mid-air explosion has killed passengers from 21 countries, including 35 Syracuse University students flying home for Christmas making it Britain’s deadliest terror attack.
That night, Michael Buerk reported the breaking news on the BBC Nine O’Clock News. At dawn, he flew to Scotland, arriving in Lockerbie the morning after the bombing.
