In its heyday, Pleasure Island, in Cleethorpes, saw hundreds of thousands of adrenaline-junkies walk through its gates every year.
But it’s been surrounded by overgrown greenery rather than overgrown kids since shutting up shop in 2016, after 23 years.
Pleasure Island was split into six areas – Africa, Morocco, Old England, Spain, Kiddies Kingdom, and White Knuckle Valley – and had plenty of thrillseeking rides, including Alakazam, Terror Rack and Gravitron.
The rides were sold in October 2018, but the majority of the buildings still remain intact to this day, including the park entrance, dodgems building and the children’s show area.
Back in 2022, a £65 million proposal was put forward to turn the abandoned theme park into a huge holiday resort including more than 270 lodges, two hotels, a drive-through coffee-shop, restaurants, a casino and supermarket
The ambitious plans have been estimated to bring in around £17 million per year once complete.
But, since September 2024, the North East Lincolnshire Council has said the proposal is ‘pending consideration’ – having had pushback from organisations including the Environment Agency and Natural England.
