Inside Lando Norris’ off-season as world champion following split from model girlfriend Margarida Corceiro

It was a little under three months ago that a tearful Lando Norris was crowned champion of the world. He had successfully managed a top-three finish in Abu Dhabi to win his first drivers’ crown, and it didn’t take long for the waterworks to make themselves known.

After eventually leaving his car, the 26-year-old would make his way over to his millionaire parents, Adam and Cisca, before stepping over to model girlfriend Magui Corceiro, who was equally emotional, for a smooch.

Then, they had seemed as secure as ever. After months of an on-off relationship, they had gone very, very public – but now things appear to be very much off again.

Norris is now single, having split from Corceiro over the winter break. Instead, he has been jetting off around the world – as if he doesn’t do that enough during the Formula One season – and gave an insight to fans in his recent Instagram posts.

One of the latest photo dumps, captioned: ‘Left this draft in the freezer,’ drew a comment from Corceiro, who wrote: ‘Nice pjs, u [sic] welcome.’

In the first picture in the sequence, Norris can be seen wrapped up warmly, while wearing some red tartan bottoms. Other snaps show him draped in snow, looking at the Northern Lights in Yosemite.

Norris’ Instagram account is quite the journal for showing his first winter as world champion. He boasts 11.6million followers, is picking up nearly 1million likes per post and has thousands of fans commenting on his adventures.

It was December 7 when he posted a selfie in an orange hat reading ‘champion.’ The likes of George Russell, Naomi Campbell and Jack Grealish commented their congratulations.

He went on to milk his success – who wouldn’t? – as photos and video of the afterparty followed, captioned: ‘Lifetime of work went into this hangover.’ Then came ‘gold day yesterday’ on December 10, featuring selfies of Norris in his car.

More followed: ‘Best day of our lives’ featuring champagne celebrations, ‘a dream come true’ showing Norris with his champion trophy, and ‘night I’d waited for my whole life’ – more snaps in a suit.

Then, among the various advertisement posts, such as with Ralph Lauren and TUMI, fans could see how he would spend his off-season.

First came a visit to his old school. ‘Spent the day back at the school where it all started!’ he wrote in a post, showing off his visit. He can be seen chatting to students, with ‘questions for Lando’ written on a big screen behind him.

One child’s work is shown off – interesting facts about the driver: ‘Lando enjoys golf, photography and he became the youngest British Formula One driver ever. He also likes fancy watches.’

February brought pre-season testing – ‘wear ear protection ppl,’ he warned in a post showing his trip to Bahrain alongside the likes of Oscar Piastri and the rest of the McLaren team. Some pretty fireworks wrapped up the post.

This week, he was in Sweden with energy drink brand Monster, driving in the snow just days out from the start of the new Formula One season.

And that brings us to this weekend. Australia is the destination for the season opener – a year in which Norris is not the favourite to retain his crown. That honour goes to George Russell – a fellow Brit that Norris has known since his karting days.

‘George always knows what he’s doing,’ Norris told Daily Mail Sport of his rival this week. ‘He tries to look the good guy. But he’ll do what he needs to do, in a sneaky way at times.

‘But I think a lot of him. He is a very, very good driver. He’ll play the game whenever he has to play the game. I mean, he’s smart. He sometimes tries to come across like he’s not.’

Mercedes are expected to lead the way in the title race, followed by Ferrari, and then McLaren. New regulations have seen a shake up in the field, and Norris knows he is up against it if he is to become a two-time champion this year.

In 2025, Magui was a regular in the paddock with Norris, cheering on her other half to glory. This year, he will have to make do without her.

Indications of their split came last month when a video clip from testing in Bahrain set tongues wagging when Norris was seemingly overheard telling F1 rival Carlos Sainz that he is ‘a single man’.

In a TikTok clip, Sainz can be heard asking Norris: ‘Are you and Magui good?’

Norris appears to respond ‘no’, adding he is ‘a single man’, though the quality of the audio had led to uncertainty as to what the Briton actually said.

The world champion is a man who knows how to live the high life. There are worse ways to spend your months off than travelling the world and giving back to those who helped you along the way.

But it’s go-time now. Many had questioned his mentality – as a world champion, there is little doubt about that now. But whether he will miss his now-ex-girlfriend’s support as he goes for glory again is a conundrum he will only know the answer to once he gets out onto the track.
