A contestant on a huge BBC game show was sent packing empty-handed after failing to guess a Harry Potter question – but could you have guessed it?

An episode of Impossible which aired a number of years ago has resurfaced thanks to one participant’s attempts at bagging the jackpot prize.

Impossible ran for 237 episodes – including 12 celebrity specials – with contestants fighting for a maximum £10,000 prize.

Each round features questions in which certain answer choices are considered ‘impossible’ – or inconsistent within the category given.

However, the show’s host Rick Edwards revealed in 2022 that executives had axed the format in a devastating update to fans.

In the newly resurfaced clip, contestant Peter makes it all the way to the final round where he’s met with a grid of nine possible answers.

To walk away with the cash prize, Peter needed to crack three answers in just 10 seconds.

He was asked: ‘Teachers in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter stories who have been Head of House.’

Peter’s options included Pomona Sprout, Quirinus Quirrell, Silvanus Kettleburn, Filius Flitwick and Myrtle Warren.

Have you cracked it?

While the clock was ticking, Peter admitted to host Rick that Harry Potter had ‘completely bypassed’ him and he struggled with the answer.

In a bid to answer, the nervous contestant picked out Pomona Sprout, Quirinus Quirrell and Myrtle Warren as his answers.

After locking in his answers, he told Rick he immediately ruled out Neville Longbottom as he knew he was a Hogwarts student.

Fortunately for Peter Pomona Sprout turned out to be correct, though Quirinus Quirrell was not.

In a blow to the hopeful, it was revealed that his other guess Myrtle Warren was in fact an Impossible answer meaning he was eliminated and sent home empty-handed.

Rick then revealed to Peter the other two correct answers were Filius Flitwick and Horace Slughorn.

Do you manage to guess correctly?

Speaking to him following the defeat, Rick said: ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t think you were going to be leaving here with nothing, Peter.

‘Played such a good game. Thank you very much for being here.’
