I’m American – I visited Italy for my dream trip but it was just filled with loud tourists from the States and bad pizza

An American woman has come under fire after criticising a small town on the Amalfi Coast for having too many ‘loud tourists’ and ‘no authentic’ restaurants.

Content creator Keri, who is from the States but is currently working in Poland, said she is hunting for ‘all the unique spots’ during her time in Europe.

However, she wasn’t impressed during her visit to Positano and said that ‘influencers’ lied about the Italian town.

Keri knew she would be ‘absolutely destroyed’ by followers about her opinion of the place but still contended that Positano wasn’t what she expected.

‘For starters, there weren’t many authentic restaurants, there wasn’t even good gelato,’ she said in a video on her Instagram, @kerimybags

‘There was maybe one good pizza place and one good pasta place, but most of them were fancy and overpriced.’

Keri said the public transportation in Positano, located on the Amalfi Coast, was poor, adding: ‘You basically have to hike everywhere to get around.’

However, despite being a US citizen, Keri said she found too many ‘loud American tourists’ in the town.

She said she was aware that her statement sounded ‘hypocritical’ but proceeded to stand by her view, saying: ‘There were just so many Americans, I don’t know how to put this, but it was like the people that were like weren’t well travelled.

‘Just loud and yelling down the tiny streets while repping their favourite football team.’

Keri was also relatively unimpressed with the nightlife, describing it as ‘terrible,’ and adding that she could only find ‘one good rooftop bar’, but it got ‘really crowded’ and a nightclub you had to pay cover for.

The traveller also hit out at Positano, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for its lack of beaches.

She said: ‘There is one really crowded beach, it’s like you have to do a beach club but they’re all really expensive. I felt like the one we went to didn’t live up to the hype.’

Overall, Keri said she was disappointed by her experience and said: ‘This is definitely not the place to try and experience the true, authentic Italian culture.

‘We also came from Greece, so our expectations were really high.’

Keri captioned the clip: ‘Don’t hate the messenger. It’s a beautiful place and worth a visit obviously I feel privileged to have experienced this! Just brace yourself for these things.

‘Not trying to be negative just transparent about my views and experience.’

However, some viewers have criticised her for ‘not doing her research’ and said she should ‘go to Nashville’ if she wants to bar hop, rather than a small Italian town.

One wrote: ‘Because Positano should cater their beautiful little town to you wanting to bar hop and hit night clubs. Hate to break it to you but if that’s what you went there for, you didn’t do your research.’

Others said: ‘Imagine relying on influencers to tell you where to go instead of *doing research*’;

‘Going to the Amalfi Coast and complaining about the lack of bar hopping opportunities while never leaving Positano… girl, you f***ed up bad’;

‘It’s one of the absolutely most beautiful places on earth. Don’t stay in overcrowded Sorrento or Positano, rent a tiny car, stay in the smaller towns, drive the Amalfitana, go on a boat trip to Capri and Ischia, take the chair lift up to Anacapri, go cliff jumping, explore the hillside in Amalfi, go to a summer concert in Ravello, hike the Path of the Gods, eat pasta and drink wine.

‘If you want rooftop bar hopping, just got to Nashville.’

‘I totally get the American comment. I’m an American and prefer to see as few Americans as possible when I travel’;

‘I get what you’re trying to say, but it’s still tone deaf. Primarily, YOU are the chief American tourist everybody hates with your tripod out in public.’

Previously, an American tourist was slammed for branding the Amalfi Coast in Italy ‘literal manual labor’ because she had to walk up many flights of stairs to get to her hotel.

Lexi Jordan is a content creator who frequently shares videos of her and her boyfriend traveling the world.

The Denver-based TikToker was blasted for being ‘tone deaf’ and ‘entitled’ after she shared a clip of herself lamenting about the tourist hotspot being too much work.

In a viral clip, which amassed over 443,000 views, Lexi said: ‘Every single influencer and TikToker who put the Amalfi Coast on my for you page over the last two months, deserves jail time.’

She explained that while influencers boasted the stunning views, they ‘didn’t tell you the disclaimers.’

‘First of all, it’s impossible to get here, you have to fly into Naples, then you have to take a train from Naples to Sorrento, then you have to stand in 90-degree weather waiting for a ferry to get on a ferry with all of your luggage, [and] lug it onto the ferry.

‘[When you] get to Amalfi Coast finally, then, to get the high points, the beautiful hotels – there are no streets here, there are no cars – so you have to walk up 160 stairs with all your luggage to get to the top of this gorgeous area with these beautiful views.

‘And then also, all the power went out because the Amalfi Coast doesn’t have the infrastructure to support this tourism,’ she said in the video.

She captioned the clip: ‘Honestly, my main takeaway is if you’re gonna come here don’t make the same mistake I did – go for at least a week and definitely not two days.’

And although she threw a fit about lugging her suitcases up all the stairs, she revealed in the comments section that her boyfriend and a concierge member were actually the ones who did the heavy lifting while she followed behind.

Lexi begged for social media users’ empathy because she ‘still had to walk.’
