He will now come up against Gary Anderson for a spot in the showpiece against one of Luke Littler or Ryan Searle.

Van Veen’s success at Ally Pally has all-but guaranteed him a place in this year’s Premier League having provisionally moved up to World No3 and also the new Dutch No1 – surpassing Michael van Gerwen – after reaching the semi final.

Asked about being involved in the Premier League, he said: “Is there a rule that top four automatically qualifies? Then very excited.

“As long as I don’t get the email or phone call that I am not going to be in, I am not 100 per cent sure.

“But it is really looking good so very, very excited of course.

“Playing the other top seven players in the world week in, week out is very exciting.

“I couldn’t even dream about it growing up. I really look forward to that.

Speaking after his 5-1 thumping of world No2 Humphries, Van Veen, 23, admitted he doesn’t feel like a top five in the world player.

LUK OUT!

He insists he needs to be playing like he is consistently in order to be an elite player in the sport.

He told Sky Sports: “It is going to be very tricky, of course.

“Gary Anderson up next and then in the final, Ryan Searle or Luke Littler. So it’s not going to be easy.

“But if I keep performing like I have done tonight, then I’ve got a good chance.

“Maybe I am one of the elite players in the sport, but I wouldn’t say I am top five in the world.

“But, I am number three in the world right now, into the semi-finals, feeling really good. I know if I play well, like I did today, I can beat anyone.

“it is just on me to show that game after game and that’s what the other elite players do.

“So if I want to be an elite player, I need to do that week in, week out.”
