Posting on social media, Stu, a foodie from the UK, shared a step-by-step of his bargain meal – and a £1.35 buy from Aldi is key.

As he prepared to cook his dinner, which he referred to as his “council tea,” Stu said: “It’s time for another council tea – yes, it’s still tea.”

The father then explained: “Right, so we’re going homemade chips again for tea [and] to accompany the homemade chips we went up-market, we went beans from M&S.”

My partner was mortified by my £1.48 council estate dinner but you can’t beat it

But to ensure his meal stayed true to his “council estate” roots, he showed off a pack of Bramwells Chopped Pork & Ham as he continued: “Now, to keep it council, I did want Spam tonight, but we didn’t have any – I mean, is this even meat, or is it just horse or something?”

Alongside the baked beans, tinned meat and “proper chips” which were heavily seasoned with salt, he then cooked a fried egg.

Following this, he acknowledged: “Don’t come at me in the comments saying, ‘oh, that’s so council,’ yes, I know it’s council, but you know what? We’re all council and council teas are the best.”

As he showed off his time-efficient and purse-friendly dish, he beamed: “There we have a proper, proper council tea.”

For this dinner, you can nab everything you need on a tight budget from Aldi.
