THE BOYFRIEND of Michael van Gerwen’s ex-wife Daphne Govers admitted he “pulled a trick” on the darts legend.
Van Gerwen, 36, and Govers announced in May that with “great sadness” they would be going their separate ways.
The pair had been married for more than a decade and have two children together.
But Govers is now with new boyfriend Robert, with whom she is expecting a “miracle” baby.
And the couple gave a bombshell interview where they admitted they had known each other “for a long time” and had “always clicked” before her split with the Dutch darts star.
Robert told Shownieuws: “That’s when the spark ignited. It wasn’t the intention but it happened.
“We didn’t want to offend anyone, let me be clear about that. We didn’t want to hurt anyone, not Michael, not anyone. It happened. It turned out a little differently than expected.”
There were also rumours suggesting Robert was in a relationship when he first linked up with Govers.
But she insisted he had already broken up with his ex before they started their own relationship.
Govers said: “But not everything that’s been posted online is true.
“I just want to say that [Robert] had already broken up with his ex [when the pair started their relationship].”
Nevertheless, Robert admitted he is “not proud” of how everything transpired.
He added: “I find it difficult. Of course, I pulled that trick on him, and I’m not proud of it. But hey, I chose my own happiness, and he’s welcome here.”
That led to a surprise pregnancy shortly after Govers broke up with Van Gerwen.
She added: “I didn’t expect it. I was at the hospital with the other two, too. I couldn’t have gotten pregnant naturally. If it does happen, it’ll be a miracle.
“My world was completely turned upside down. How am I going to handle this? But in the end, it all worked out. It’s more than welcome.”
Asked about her time with Van Gerwen and how he feels about her pregnancy, Govers replied: “Of course, a mistake was made on my part.
“Everyone knows that. We don’t have to hide that. I’d rather keep the story private.
“I wouldn’t dare say [how Van Gerwen feels]. I don’t think he’s very happy, but I really don’t know.”
Van Gerwen dubbed 2025 his “worst year”, and added “at some point, you want to think about nice things again, not just be preoccupied with the mess you’re experiencing at that moment”.
