A YOUNG woman has claimed that she pays “the cheapest rent in the whole of the UK.”
Not only does estate agent Elise Holt pay “peanuts” a month for her one-bed 300sqft property, but she also gets her washing done for her and her tea made too.
Posting on social media, the blonde gave viewers a close-up look at her tiny home, which is in her nan’s garden.
The content creator, who is from the UK, then said: “I pay the cheapest rent in the whole of the UK to have my own place – I literally pay peanuts and that includes my tea made, my washing done and all my utilities.”
While she didn’t confirm exactly how much it costs her to live in the annexe, she explained: “I live in this detached true bungalow and yes, there is a catch – the bungalow is in my nan’s back garden.”
Elise confirmed that her nan, Beverley, 71, loves to “spoil her rotten” and has a “huge” garden with space for the “full-on house.”

She claimed that the annexe is “not perfect” but is “very cute” and is actually “older” than her.
The 23-year-old is living with her boyfriend, Lucus, 24, an engineer, in the 30-year-old bungalow, which Elise’s nan originally had built for her mother, Winnie.
Elise, who is “trying to be an influencer,” then continued: “It got passed down and now it’s passed on to us grandkids to enjoy – luckily, I’m the eldest, that’s why I’m here first, but I have been here for five years now and my siblings are seriously eyeing it up.
“I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to part ways with the bungalow – it’s literally watched me and my boyfriend fall in love, it’s watched me grow from a teenager to a woman – this place holds so many memories.”
Elise admitted to “feeling sick” at the thought of leaving her annexe and confirmed that it’s not just because she will miss the “minimal bills,” but also because living there has been an “absolute blessing” for her bank account.
The savvy saver confirmed that she has saved £10,000 for a deposit on a home of her own and hopes to find a property to move into later this year.
Not only this, but she estimates she’s also saved £19,000 in rent – as the average one-bed flat in Oldham, Greater Manchester, where Elise lives, costs £605 per month, according to the Office for National Statistics.
She continued: “I do know it won’t be my forever home, which kills me to say, but it’s the best stepping stone to owning our own place.”
Are tiny homes legal in the UK?
TINY houses can be in the UK regardless of whether they are on a trailer base or not. The legality of tiny houses is all to do with where it is and what you use it for.
According to Planning Geek, constructing a granny annexe in your garden usually means you’ll need planning permission, especially if it has a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.
This is because it’s seen as a separate living space rather than just an extension of your main home.
However, if you’re thinking about converting an existing outbuilding, like a garage, into a granny annexe or a tiny home, you might not need planning permission.
That said, it’s important to make sure the space doesn’t end up being a fully self-contained unit – for instance, if the converted area doesn’t include cooking facilities, it might not be classified as a separate dwelling.
It’s also worth noting that, while certain small outbuildings can be constructed under permitted development rights, the NAPC points out that this usually applies to structures like sheds or garages, rather than self-contained annexes.
According to The Tiny Housing, a tiny home on wheels must not exceed 2.55 meters in width to be road-legal in the UK. Also, with a standard car licence, the length cannot be more than seven meters.
While tiny homes offer an alternative living solution, they must comply with local planning and building regulations.
Always check with your local council to ensure compliance with all regulations.
