I live with my new husband and ex to save money… here’s how we make it work

A woman who lives with her new husband and ex-husband to save money has revealed how they make their bizarre living situation work.

Megan Meyer, 25, from South Carolina, split from husband Tyler, 26, in September 2023 after three years of marriage – they have one daughter together.

Soon after going their separate ways, she started reconciling with a former flame named Michael Flores, 26.

Megan and Flores wed in June 2024 and welcomed a baby boy two months later.

But balancing her new family while co-parenting her then two-year-old daughter with Tyler was not easy for Megan.

In addition, both she and her ex were struggling financially – when suddenly, a solution to their problems dawned on her: They could all move in together to cut down their living costs and make it easier to manage co-parenting duties.

The trio has now been residing under one roof for about a year, and it’s saved them a ton of money.

But being roommates with her ex-husband has not always been easy, and she spoke about the pros and cons of their situation exclusively with the Daily Mail.

‘What led to us living together after the split was mainly for our daughter, not wanting to disrupt her schedule and cause so much confusion,’ she explained.

‘Also financially, we all wanted to save more money and cut expenses in half, so since the guys were starting to get along so well, we just thought, why not?

‘It has helped us save a lot of money for our end goal, which is to eventually buy a big plot of land and have two separate homes on it. Basically a family compound.’

In addition to helping them financially, Megan said her daughter gets to have ‘both her parents around all the time’ and doesn’t have to ‘disrupt her schedule’ to go back and forth.

‘She gets to see how her parents put aside their pride and ego for her, and to give her the best childhood we possibly could,’ she added.

But Megan admitted that sometimes she and her ex ‘bicker,’ which makes things complicated.

‘Usually my husband will step in and calm me down, because my anger and bitterness can be quick to rise when speaking to my ex,’ she confessed.

‘But nothing is ever extreme, we fight more like siblings than anything else.’

Thankfully, she said there’s no jealousy between her ex and her new partner, in fact, they get along great.

She explained she and her husband are not allowed to get affectionate in the ‘common areas,’ so they save that for the bedroom.

But in the end, she said the key to making it work is open communication.

‘There’s been lots of healing, and moving forward in all of the ways. Nothing was ever left lingering on any side of this equation,’ she explained.
