A MODEL who won a bikini contest almost 20 years ago has revealed men still insist she’s their “first crush”.
Camilla Jayne triumphed in the nightclub competition on a random night out in Mayfair, London, where she was spotted by a TV exec.
This led to the now 41-year-old becoming an early face of one of the biggest international webcam sites that defined a generation.
The original Babestation model had callers waiting for “hours” just for a chance to talk to her and many men have admitted that she was their “first crush” – with one user so enamoured he still watches old VHS recordings of her shows with his wife.
Recalling her unexpected rise to fame, Camilla, from Oxfordshire, said: “They were one girl short for the bikini contest and I stepped in last-minute.
“I’d had a few drinks, so I thought, ‘Why not?’.
“My recent relationship had broken down and I thought it’d be a fun distraction.
“Amazingly, I ended up winning and even got a bottle of champagne.
“Then a stranger came up to me and asked me if I wanted to do TV.
“I found her card in my pocket when I woke up the next day and realised that she worked for a TV company.
“She wanted me to be a presenter and read out text messages from viewers on air.
“It all seemed great and I loved the flexibility.
“Once I was, I just ended up working on the phones as well, talking to users live, and really enjoyed it.
“You get to speak to so many unusual people and a lot of characters.”
“Then, Babestation rang me”, continued Camilla, who has 22,400 Instagram followers, @cammyjayne7.
The adult channel had spotted her on TV and quickly snapped her up – at the time, she was 23-years-old.
She said: “I knew that I had something a bit different to offer. The job was amazing.
“I was always trying to be as sexy as I could but people really loved the funny side of me, which I think made me relatable. I had a bit of character.
“A user might spot me in their local Wetherspoon’s and I would buy them a drink and we’d have a laugh.
“I’ve had many people tell me that I was their first crush.
“One guy said he recorded every single time I was on TV – it was wild.”
Despite the mostly positive attention, Camilla admits that it sometimes felt a little uncomfortable.
She revealed: “It would sometimes get to me when I was recognised in public or out at a club.
“It seemed slightly unbelievable that people considered me a celebrity but it was very flattering.
“I’d have callers come up to me while I was just trying to go to Tesco to get my milk in the morning.
“And I just was a normal girl.”
She believes that for some viewers, it wasn’t just about the glamour or racy looks – they were looking for the “girlfriend experience”.
She said: “At one point, I had hundreds of men queuing on the phone lines, just waiting for me to talk to them.
“They wanted to speak with me on a regular basis or offered to send a birthday or Christmas present.
“I would always get Easter eggs and it was because they genuinely wanted to feel connected to me.
“You build up rapport and relationship with people – they care.
“But our chats were also very seductive and tongue-in-cheek.
“I was the famous girl on TV who they were actually able to interact with.”
Since returning for her spot on Babestation Legends, Camilla has even caught up with some familiar voices.
She said: “Speaking with my old callers was incredible and it felt really homely.
“It was an amazing experience because everyone was like ‘Oh my god, it’s her – and that made me feel really special.
“One guy came through and told me about how he and his wife have me on VHS tape for really naughty nights together, while others said I was the first woman they’d ever seen like that on TV.”
For Camilla, it was comforting to see that not much has changed.
She said: “There seems to be a really huge level of respect for Babestation.
“Though some guys are really overexcited; they’ve never spoken to a woman in this way and they wanna be cocky and banterish.
“I tell them when they need to tone it down.”
Camilla was also recently nominated for Mature Model of the Year at the UK Glamour Awards – and she couldn’t be prouder.
She added: “It feels amazing to be nominated.
“Having been in the industry this long, it feels exciting to see the Babestation team again and for everyone to get glammed up together.”
