A SAVVY mother has shared how she made her own DIY Christmas wreath without breaking the bank.
So if you can’t afford to splash £500 on a huge wreath that’ll go outside your home, fear not, you’ve come to the right place.
DIY fan Katie McCutcheon explained how she made her own for a fraction of the cost – enabling her to save hundreds of pounds in the process.
Posting on social media, the bargain hunter mum talked through the step-by-step process of making your own wreath – and a hula hoop is key for starters.
She said: “I really wanted a giant wreath this year for my garage door – I wasn’t paying anywhere between £300 and £500 for one, so let me show you how I’ve done it for £50.”
Katie confirmed that she bought a 100cm hula hoop from B&M which cost her £5, nabbed pipe insulation from B&Q which was £10 each and spent another £10 on cable ties from Amazon.

Firstly, the brunette held up her pipe insulation and added: “This one from B&Q already came with the slits in it, so I didn’t really need to do much, I just needed to open that up, pop that on top of the hula hoop and then put my cable ties around it.
“I bought three lots of the insulation and it almost fitted perfectly with two, there was literally the tiniest little gap.
“I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so we cut a bit to size and then cable tied it all so it was secure and in place.
“I just put some extra cable ties right around the whole hula hoop ring because I wanted to make sure that there was no way nothing was coming off.
“This, if I’m being honest, was the really, really easy part.”
Using garlands she already owned to cover the hula hoop, the mother continued: “The next part is when it starts to get a bit annoying, this is the tedious part – wrapping them all round.
“I used three garlands, then you need to fluff it all out, secure them all in place with cable ties – as I said, tedious work, but in the long run, so worth it.”
After adding a pack of 500 warm white lights, which Katie nabbed from The Range for just £15, she showed off her finished wreath and beamed: “I was chuffed, as you can see, so incredibly chuffed.”
