A mother is considering leaving her husband after he secretly named their newborn after his female boss.
The woman, 31, said she and her spouse had agreed they would name their child after her late grandfather, so she was confused when the birth certificate arrived with a completely different moniker.
She was furious to find out the dad had registered their baby’s name as his female boss’s surname and feels so ‘betrayed’ that she’s considering ending the marriage.
Many sided with the mum, branding the father a ‘liar,’ suspecting that he may be having an affair with his superior.
Others thought divorce was ‘drastic’ and defended the dad’s actions, with some claiming he ‘forgot’ or ‘mixed up’ the mum’s grandfather’s name.
The 31-year-old woman explained that she and her 35-year-old husband welcomed their first child two weeks prior.
‘I thought we were decided on the name the day of his birth, but apparently my dumba** husband changed his mind,’ she ranted on Reddit.
‘The name we were going for originally is also the name of my veteran grandfather, who passed away a couple years back.’

The mum was astonished to discover her baby had been registered under a different name when the birth certificate arrived in the mail.
‘I found out my husband didn’t actually register the name we had both discussed and agreed on,’ she said.
‘The name registered on the birth certificate is the last name of his boss, who is also a woman.’
She thought maybe they had been sent the wrong birth certificate, but deduced from the full names and phone numbers on the package that no mistake was made.
‘Yesterday evening, when my husband came home from work, I asked him what he named our child in a passive-aggressive way, and he responded with the original name we decided on,’ she said.
‘I then asked why it said *The Name* on the package, and he is saying he doesn’t know.’
To be extra sure, the mum called the hospital, where staff confirmed that her husband was definitely the person who filled out and registered the forms for the document.
‘Finally got him to admit it, but he didn’t give a good reason to why he decided to name our child after his BOSS, who was accused of fraud in the company instead of the name that was supposed to honour my grandfather,’ he said.
‘After five years of being together, I no longer trust him, and I am planning to file for a divorce in the next few months.’
The distraught wife confided in her younger sister, who immediately sided with the father, saying it was ‘not a big deal’ and that she ‘should let it go’.
‘I don’t know if I should be taking this as seriously as I am now,’ she said.
‘I am starting to think there is a possible affair going on, but maybe I am overreacting and he just really likes the name.’
The woman’s conundrum drew in hundreds of replies, mostly from users slamming the dad.
‘He lied and denied. Absolutely intentional,’ one user said.
‘Was he sleeping with the female boss? If not, I have no idea why someone would name someone after a criminal,’ a second questioned.
‘He is a liar and a cheater who is having an affair with her and also probably is an accomplice to her fraud and had to do it to keep HER happy. I would leave him, divorce him, and change my child’s name as well,’ a third alleged.
‘Not only he went behind your back to change the name, he also lied straight to your face when confronted. She is definitely more than just a boss,’ someone added.
However, others hit back, defending the dad and offering the mum no sympathy.
‘In the confusion of the moment, could he have forgotten your grandfather’s name or mixed it up with the boss’s last name accidentally? Like…is it better to think he had a memory moment rather than like…purposely used a name of someone he had an affair with or something? Divorce seems drastic,’ one person wrote.
‘Newsflash, the vast majority of names are not unique. You’re in for a bad time if you can’t handle your kid sharing names with strangers,’ another said.
