I came across a clip yesterday from an interview Jake Tapper gave to Katie Couric. Tapper was talking about the degree to which Hunter Biden seemed to be making decisions for the Biden family and that led to him expressing some pretty blunt opinions about Hunter as a person.
“I think Hunter was driving the decision-making for the family in a way that people– he was almost like a chief of staff of the family,” Tapper replied…
“It’s bizarre because I think he is provably demonstrably unethical, sleazy, and prone to horrible decisions,” Tapper replied.
“Tell me how you really feel,” joked Couric in reply.
“Well, I mean, I just look at the record. I mean, after his brother died, he cheated on his wife with his brother’s widow and then got her addicted to crack. That’s just one thing I could say. I mean, I don’t have a lot of personal regard for him, and just based on having nothing to do with– I barely have ever met him. I’ve met him like once or twice.”

Also yesterday, a site called Breaker released an interview with Hunter Biden in which he claimed Jake Tapper had hounded him at the time of his brother’s death.
The saga is said to have unfolded when Tapper repeatedly called Hunter as his brother was dying of brain cancer at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 2015, the outlet reported, citing multiple sources.
When Tapper subsequently followed up on a blocked number, which Hunter answered, the sources claimed Biden’s son allegedly bluntly said: “Go f–k yourself, Jake.”
Years later, the duo came face to face at the 2018 Super Bowl in Minneapolis, where sources witnessed a tense interaction between the pair — kicking off the rumors of their feud.
Several witnesses previously told Puck that they saw Hunter put his arm around Tapper’s shoulders before telling him that “I would knock you out” if they weren’t in a public setting.
Not a lot of love between these two obviously. It’s probably not a coincidence that this Hunter Biden interview was published on the same day Tapper’s book about his father was published. For his part, Tapper denied ever calling Hunter and said they did have a tense exchange at the Super Bowl in 2018 but it was over stories about Hunter which Tapper hadn’t even written.
Tapper disputes Hunter’s account, telling Breaker he suggested the confrontation was about unrelated CNN reporting on Hunter’s past: “Hunter did once confront me at a Super Bowl party, but it was over an unrelated issue – coverage he wrongly believed I had done regarding divorce allegations of drug use and using prostitutes, which I actually had never done.”
Breaker confirmed that Tapper did, in fact, cover Hunter’s alleged drug use.
A spokesperson for Tapper also told the outlet: “The idea that Jake could do something so heartless – and yet the Bidens would subsequently offer him multiple sit-down interviews as well as agree to him moderating the debate, all without anyone hearing about it until now – completely defies logic.”
Two sources close to the Biden family at the time told Breaker, however, that Hunter’s anger was clearly not about reporting on his personal conduct.
“It was obviously transparent niceties and then right to business as if the one thing Hunter is thinking about as Beau is dying is let me give Jake Tapper an exclusive,” one source told Breaker. “He was furious about it.”
So I guess you have to decide who to believe here. There were some people arguing on X yesterday that, if anything, Tapper seemed to be presenting Hunter as a victim prior to 2024.

Personally, I don’t see how anyone could believe Hunter Biden. He’s a former drug addict who traded on his family name for money. As Tapper mentions, he had an affair with his deceased brother’s wife, got her addicted to drugs, and then did his best to escape responsibility for some of his illegal and unethical behavior. He is a genuine dirtbag who escaped justice thanks solely to dad’s pardon power. It’s impossible to take his word on anything at this point.
In any case, the book is about Joe Biden and his top staff, not about Hunter. Hunter could simply stay out of it. The fact that he’s attacking Tapper instead suggests Tapper had a point about who was driving the Biden family car, so to speak.
