Huge police response as helicopter crashes into field in Doncaster as cops tell people to ‘avoid the area’

Emergency services have rushed to a field near Doncaster following reports that a helicopter came down in the area shortly after takeoff.

Police, fire and ambulance crews are on site in Bentley near the South Yorkshire city after the chopper reportedly took off from Gamston Airport, Retford at around 10am.

Local reports suggest ‘at least 30’ emergency vehicles are on the scene, and that wreckage has been strewn across a field adjacent to the road. 

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: ‘At 10.14am today (Thursday 30 October), we were called to Ings Lane, Bentley, where it is reported that a helicopter crashed in a field.

‘Officers and emergency services colleagues are in attendance at the scene.

‘Ings Lane is closed while we respond to this incident. Please avoid the area and plan an alternative route where possible. 

‘Further updates will be provided when they are available.’
