RUBEN AMORIM reportedly earned the respect of his Manchester United stars by accidentally smashing a TV in anger last season.
The United boss has suffered a difficult 12 months at Old Trafford and looked to be on the brink at points during his first season.
Amorim struggled to turn the club’s fortunes around after succeeding Erik ten Hag in the role as he oversaw a number of humiliating results.
His side ended up finishing 15th in the 2024-25 campaign, losing 18 games in total and 14 under his leadership.
They also lost the Europa League final against Tottenham before Amorim declared it a “disaster season” in a speech on the Old Trafford pitch during the final day.
And it has now emerged that Amorim’s frustrations with his side boiled over during a painful 3-1 home defeat to Brighton in January.
Amorim was overcome with emotion and had “tears forming in his eyes” before launching a furious tirade at his players that saw him accidentally smash a TV screen, according to the Telegraph.
The incident shocked some of his players, while others “grew in respect” for the Portuguese coach after seeing his feelings on show.
The moment is a call-back to Sir Alex Ferguson‘s classic “hairdryer” treatment of his United stars – when he would fume at his players after a bad result.
An infamous encounter saw him kick a boot at David Beckham, leaving the midfielder with a gash on his forehead.

Another incident of Amorim’s emotional side coming out occurred during a 2-2 draw away at Everton, in which United trailed 2-0 at half time.
Amorim reportedly knelt down outside the dressing room in the corridor for most of the interval, while “bemused” Everton staff looked on.
He only made a brief appearance in the United dressing room as coach Darren Fletcher gave the main address to the players.
It comes after a similar report claimed Amorim raged at midfielder Manuel Ugarte in a team meeting after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.
He is said to have slammed the midfielder for allowing his work rate to drop and suggested he had got comfortable since their first stint working together, according to The Athletic.
The situation at United is a lot more stable this season, having overcome a poor start to go five games unbeaten.
Amorim’s men came from behind to draw 2-2 at Tottenham in stoppage time before the international break to show some of the fighting spirit their coach was been craving.
They also secured a memorable 2-1 win away at Premier League champions Liverpool last month, while also beating Sunderland and Brighton.
United host Everton after the international break at Old Trafford on November 24, before a trip to Crystal Palace on November 30.
