Californians are a special breed, and there is no more “special” (as in “special needs) group of Californians than the people in its government.
As much as we think of California politicians as evil–Scott Weiner certainly fits that description–the run-of-the-mill California government official is more likely to be supremely stupid rather than actively evil. Weiner understands what he is doing because he is smart. But then there are others who are just so ignorant that they come up with idiocies like this:

Wrap your head around her thinking. She is asked about affordability, and her answer is to reduce the supply of housing and increase the number of parking spots with EV chargers.
She seriously believes that this is the solution to out-of-control housing prices.
You can see in the face of the podcast host his incredulity at her response, and Senator Weiner’s pain at having to share a screen with this moron.
Yet this is how most Californians, at least in urban areas, think. The inability to connect policy choices with consequences is the common thread that runs through most California policies. And because so many Californians are ill-educated–by design, I would add–and so trusting of government, they accept answers like this without thinking.
Instead, they see the developers and landlords as the bad guys. Why are you charging so much? Maybe subsidies to renters will help!
That, and more EV chargers, of course. Always more EV chargers. That the California power grid is groaning due to neglect is just another example of how evil corporations are.
I am trying to track down the entire podcast–I don’t recognize the host–but this clip tells you everything you need to know. If a legislator who helps craft the laws of the state can be so incredibly stupid, what is the point of listening to her blather on?
