A COSY cottage that appeared in a much loved ITV series for 18 years, but can you name the show?
The Grade II Listed Fern Cottage in Port Isaac Cornwall is a former fisherman’s cottage with views over the natural harbour and village.
Port Isaac is a traditional fishing village with picture postcard scenery, but it is most famous for being the fictional home of this adored series.
The stone cottage acted as the surgery of Dr Martin Ellingham in the much loved ITV series Doc Martin, starring Martin Clunes, since it first aired in September 2004.
It is available to book here this autumn for £360 a night and boasts being: “a certain way to escape the pressures of modern life in an idyllic location”.
The two-bed bolthole has plenty of character with stone floors, exposed brickwork, a galley kitchen and an original fireplace.
The cottage hit the market in 2022 at £1.25 million, just one month after filming of the final Doc Martin episode, a Christmas special, finished.
The property finally sold under offer in 2023. Josephine Ashby, managing partner of the estate agents, previously said the sale price was close to the slashed asking price of £985,000.
“We received an offer almost immediately but like selling a piece of art it is hard to determine what it is worth”, she added.
Fern cottage is nestled above Port Isaac, or Portwenn as it is known in the show, and has glowing five-star reviews online:
“We had a wonderful, comfortable stay in Fern Cottage. As Doc Martin fans, we enjoyed seeing Port Isaac.
“Watching the tide go in and out was a show in itself and we got a kick out of watching people smile as they walked by the cottage”, said one visitor from this summer.
Popular seaside towns of Polzeath and Padstow are nearby making it the ideal destination whether you are a fan of the hit drama or simply seeking a charming sea-side getaway.
Before filming the show’s final episodes, Martin Clunes told Express.co.uk: “I have loved going to Cornwall to make Doc Martin over the past 18 years.
“I have looked forward to returning to this beautiful county this year for the 10th and final series.
“The people of Cornwall, and Port Isaac in particular, have always been so helpful to us when we are making the series.”
