GAMBINO (3.05 Musselburgh, nap)
Fascinating Flat runner for jumps king Dan Skelton. He’s never saddled a winner on the level from a handful of attempts but has a good chance with this five-year-old.
He started on the Flat for Noel Meade in Ireland where he won and finished second from two starts at Gowran. He then switched to Skelton who ran him in the Constitution Hill novice race at Southwell where he was a respectable third.
He was a good third on his hurdles debut at Newbury 14 days ago and looks to have a bright future in that sphere. In the meantime, he’s nicely handicapped on the Flat off 83 and is capable of improvement under Rossa Ryan.
WE’RE RED AND BLUE (2.12 Haydock, nb)
WE’RE RED AND BLUE is bred in the purple and can take this red-hot handicap for the O’Neill team. This son of Blue Bresil was a cracking third in the Imperial Cup at Sandown last time and is only 2lb higher here.
He travels strongly, jumps slickly and is only six so there should be more to come. The return to a sharp two miles on good to soft looks ideal and he likes to be up with the pace which pays dividends at Haydock.
AL QAREEM (2.30 Musselburgh, treble)
AL QAREEM often runs well fresh and can make a winning start to the season. He was third at Group 1 level and won Ascot’s Cumberlodge Lodge for the third time in a row in October. He has no issue with this trip and should have too much class for main rival Mount Atlas.
