DOWN TO THE KID (1.30 Southwell, nap).
Michael Herrington’s handicapper is the model of consistency on the sand and rarely finishes out of the frame. He particularly likes his trips to this Nottinghamshire track where he has won six times and was a cracking second last time out. He hit the front a long way from home there and was just worn down in the closing stages. But only the winner got past him as he stayed on strongly and dropping back a furlong holds no fears. He still looks well weighted and Neil Callan can get a good tune out of him.
DAPPER GEE GEE (1.00 Southwell, nb)
Trainer Tony Carroll is in decent form again and this four-year-old was just denied at Wolverhampton last time out. He stays over his favourite distance today and the handicapper has left his mark alone which gives him every chance.
NIGHT BEAR (4.05 Southwell, treble)
Another Carroll runner who can show his teeth. The first-time visor could give him the little nudge he needs after an unlucky run at Lingfield last time. He’s won around here before.
COUNSEL (3.00 Southwell, Lucky 15)
He was in winning form at Lingfield two starts ago before getting a poor ride there last time. He is on a winnable mark and this son of Frankel is suited by the mile distance.
